Joanne Handler was born in Forest Hills, New York.  She attended the University of Pennsylvania , where she studied as a photographer.  She established a professional practice in studio photography in 2001, while simultaneously exploring the language of abstraction with her personal Fine Art photography.   This continued exploration eventually inspired her to transition into painting, which has since become her primary medium.

Handler lives and works in New York, NY and exhibits regularly in the area.  Recent group exhibits include The White Room Gallery’s “Zen and the Art of Women” in Bridgehampton, SITE Brooklyn’s “Color: Primary to Tertiary”, Harlem School of the Arts “Shelter 2018”, the New York Borough President’s office “City Views”, First Street Gallery “On and Off the Wall” and Arthouse “The Grow Show”.   She has had two solo exhibits in the lobby of The Kaufman Arcade and she has been in numerous shows through The National Association of Women’s Artists, of which she is a member.  She also exhibits and sells her work online through The White House Gallery, 1stDibs, Artsy, Saatchi Art, Artzine and Gallery 104.
